Q: How does Structural proactively protect companies and their employees from the unlawful harassment of their colleagues who may choose to misuse the application?

A: Structural’s role and permission provides safeguards. Which are more significant than a company email, chat, or text systems. Combined with current training at the time of launch, protects each user and the companies employing them.

Structural uses roles and permissions to help prevent misuse. First, there is the ability to define and assign roles to each user. The roles define if users can send communications (posts and polls), and to whom they are allowed to send them. Permissions allow communications to be sent to the larger organization OR limited to a specific user’s own department, or even just their manager.

Second, permissions can provide individuals with the ability to report content that they find objectionable to administrators, who have the option to remove the content.

Structural strongly recommends including clear guidelines on suggested use of company-provided applications during employee training. Additionally, it is recommended that company device policies are updated to include an expanded list of guidelines which position Structural as company-provided software purchased to facilitate and enhance company communication regardless of accessing on a personal device or the web.

Q: Does Structural have any recommendations to prevent non-exempt employees from accessing the technology to engage in work activities outside their scheduled work hours?

A: Many clients with non-exempt workers have chosen to provide employees with an agreement to sign in advance of rollout stating that the use of Structural outside of working hours is not chargeable. Updating internal policies and communicating the expectations during the launch event will set expectations and may also mitigate the noted concerns.

Q: Is a company obliged to pay for the costs incurred in connection with the use of a personal device for work?

A: A personal mobile device is not required to use Structural as it is available both as a mobile application and a web-based application. Structural supports all major browsers and operating systems.

Q: How does Structural store employee data within the profiles? Is the employer able to access the employee profile data to satisfy electronic discovery requests during litigation?

A: With Structural, company information is not stored on an employee’s personal device, but rather in secure storage in the Structural SaaS platform. Full backups are saved at daily, weekly and monthly intervals and can be sent to the customer should the need arise.
